[Unlucky] Numbers: 02 06 13 19 32 Powerball: 22

Surprise! I didn't win the lottery last week! In fact, I bought $10 worth of lottery tickets and I literally had 1 number pulled. 1 number out of $10 worth of computer-selected numbers. I think that may be impressive in itself. Well, I lost $10 instead of the usual $5, but nothing new otherwise. In the meantime, last Friday was not a good day for the numbers for Dad at Indiana either.

Here are some very unlucky numbers to give a sense of what we're dealing with at the moment:
02 06 13 19 32 Powerball: 22

02: The median wait time in months at Indiana University for a liver transplant (once listed) based on most recent data available.

06: Where Dad was told he was on the list back in January. Shortly after, we learned that it was where he was on the list for his blood type. Still seemed relatively high on the list, regardless. Boy, that seems like a long time ago....

13: How many weeks he has been waiting on the liver transplant list in Indiana.

19: Dad's most recent MELD score. His MELD score has hovered around that number for a couple of years now, despite his overall condition declining significantly, including several instances of variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, and ascites. This was also the number that we were told where he was on the list for his blood type as of last week. Several more months of waiting...

32: Approximately how many months Dad has been listed on a transplant list in general (UCLA).

Powerball # 22: The MELD score we have been consistently told that Dad has to reach to get higher on the transplant waiting list. Dad literally had a single MELD score once at 21 while in Indiana, but never 'the magic number' of 22.

Seriously--when will the odds be ever in our favor? I know I just watched Hunger Games and there are so many parallels to me right now: a nonsensical system, people that should not be are put into life-threatening positions anyway, a group of people "helping" each individual participating (yet not able to really help get out of the dangerous situation that they are in), a central organization governing a ridiculous process instead of changing the underlying problems with the system...

I'm ready for us to win. We have prepared enough. We're hungry enough.

My mazel.
